Comment:
I wrote this for my gay friend who is my "Guardian Angel," And I thought it would be appropriate.
An Ode to the Angel
And with the silence of a thousand hearts
That hold their still before they beat
Their clinging, hopeless stroke of life,
He said
Don't be afraid,
And open wide your weeping eyes,
And look, through crystal tears,
Through crippling fright and painful loneliness,
Through time and space, through love and sadness.
Now open wide your weping eyes,
And look, look deeply into mine.
And let your soul
Into the warmth of my abode,
And let me dry your face, your hair,
Your tears and your heart,
And throw your cares with you
Into my arms
And I will take them up
And I will let them go.
And you will feel all worry leave your side
And you will feel your aching heart at ease.
Softly, then, he touched my cheek with gentle palm.
I said to him I see now,
I believe what I could not believe before.
And then he smiled and told me in reply
You are forever safe from cruel hate and anger,
For it is I, my friend, that do believe in you.
And at that golden moment,
The last and final tear
Like moon, like Sun, like all the stars,
It shone for him alone upon my cheek.
And then I said
I beg you, Angel, Guardian, for yours,
Your blessing to return unto the world,
And love with all the love
That I have seen within your eyes,
And cherish all that blooms like flowers.
For you have saved me from the jaws of hateful wraith,
And I shall save you in return, until my dying day.
And he said
Go
And I went forth,
And white light lit my path.
And when I stepped my foot upon the ground,
I took the light into my hand
I took the light into my heart,
And from my heart to others it did flow,
And never cease until on weightless wings
I shall float back, through clouds,
Through wind, through sky and stars,
I shall float back to him.
I shall fly back to him.
